Week of Guided Prayer

The Sojourners’ Companions invites you to a Week of Guided Prayer in this parish from  5-11 Sept, 2010. During this Week, you will learn how to pray Scriptures using either of two prayer methods – Ignatian Contemplation & Lectio Divina. These are valuable tools for you to communicate with God and to discover what God wants of you. 

Your commitment for the week: to spend 1 hour with God in personal prayer each day, and from Monday to Friday (6-10 September), to meet with your spiritual companion for half-hour in church.

· Sun 5 Sep, 2 to 5pm—Taster afternoon, where we explain the prayer methods and assign pilgrims to prayer guides

· Mon to Fri, 6-10 Sep—Pilgrims will meet their prayer guides in one-to-one meetings on a daily basis.

· Sat 11 Sep, 2 to 4.30pm—Closure sessions for pilgrims to share their experiences.  We will also discuss how pilgrims can continue praying using the Scriptures.

When I pray with Scripture passages, God's love is present and He communicates with me through the Bible. I found Ignatian Contemplation a good way to reflect and to come into God's presence with Him showing His loving nature.

When I signed up for the Week of Guided Prayer I was unsure what I would be getting into. Ignatian Contemplation opened my eyes to a new experience with the Lord.  I was struck by the phrase "come and see" (John 1:39) because I had wondered at that time why I had signed up for the Week. God was therefore telling me not to fear the unknown and to open myself to Him
